Born in Iran in 1962, Parastou Forouhar is an artist who has explored issues of politics, social injustice and human rights. Her work references her native country and includes a series of paintings depicting torture and political repression. Her parents, Parvareh and Dariush Forouhar, were political dissidents who were murdered by state agents in 1998. In her works, she attempts to seek justice for her parents and other victims of political repression in Iran. She currently lives and works in Germany. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including recent group exhibitions at The Mattress Factory, Pittsburg; Azad Art Gallery, Tehran; and IFA Gallery in Berlin/ Stuttgart.
